the story we want to tell
For the past four weeks, Nick and I have gone to volunteer at LiveWell Senior Center and Jeff and Deni Jacobs Child Development Center. Our experience throughout this project was pretty okay, we didn’t do much but we felt that what we did was important. At LiveWell we cleaned machines that had a huge button saying emergency, we didn’t enjoy it much because we weren’t really interacting with people. At the child development center we were reading books to kids and playing with them outside. That was probably the best part of the project since the kids were hyper and really talkative. We think interacting with people gives us a better sense of community and when we’re around other people we can see the differences we’re making.

Our Revised story
If we had to describe these past four weeks in words they would be communication, enjoyment and stress. Communication because we think interacting with people gives us a better sense of community and when we’re around other people we can see the differences we’re making. Stress because we started to feel pressured at the end to be really generous and to go out and volunteer at organizations. At LiveWell we cleaned machines that were similar to Life Alert, we didn’t enjoy it much because we weren’t really interacting with people. At the child development center we were reading books to kids and playing with them outside. That was probably the best part of the project since the kids were hyper and really talkative. It was fun at first because we wanted to help people but, towards the end we didn’t feel like we were actually being generous, we felt like we were just doing it for a good grade.

Helping without giving money
We both believed that instead of giving material items you should donate your time, because of that we volunteered at LiveWell and The Jeff and Deni Jacobs Child Development Center. If we had to describe these past four weeks in words they would be communication, and stress. Communication because we think interacting with people gives us a better sense of community. When we’re around people we can see the effects of our generosity. Stress because at the end we felt we had to be really generous and to go out and volunteer at organizations. It was fun at first because we wanted to help people but, towards the end we didn’t feel like we were actually being generous, we felt like we were just doing it for a good grade.
